Honestly, no — a loud exhaust does very little to protect your bike, and the reason becomes obvious once you know how most motorcycles are actually stolen.
The most common professional method is the lift: two or three people roll or carry the bike into a van or pickup. The engine never starts. Your exhaust could wake the whole street when running, but it's completely silent while your bike is being carried away. Even thieves who do ride bikes away often push them down the block first and start them far from the scene.
Where a loud exhaust might help, slightly:
- Joyriders and opportunists who plan to start the bike on the spot may think twice if it will announce them to the neighborhood.
- You might hear your own bike start if you're home and awake — a narrow but real chance.
Against that, consider the downside: a loud, distinctive exhaust makes your bike more noticeable during the scouting phase. Thieves pick targets they've seen and heard around the neighborhood, and nothing says "expensive bike lives here" like a big aftermarket system echoing down your street every evening.
Ride whatever exhaust you love — just don't count it as security. A chain, a cover, an alarm, and a hidden tracker do the actual work.
