They solve two completely different problems. A dash cam (or a parked-bike camera) records what happens around your motorcycle — useful for crash evidence, vandalism, hit-and-runs in a parking lot, and sometimes for identifying a thief's face or vehicle. A GPS tracker tells you where your motorcycle is right now — which is the only thing that matters once the bike is actually gone.
Put simply:
- Dash cam: evidence after the fact. It might show two people loading your bike into a van, but it won't tell you where that van went.
- GPS tracker: live location on your phone, plus movement alerts the moment the bike is disturbed. It's the tool police can actually act on during a theft.
There are practical differences too. Cameras on a parked bike need power and storage, and thieves can simply cover or rip them off — they're visible by design. A hidden magnetic tracker is the opposite: it works precisely because the thief doesn't know it exists.
If you can only choose one for theft specifically, choose the tracker — recovery beats footage. If your worries also include crashes and parking-lot damage, they complement each other well: the camera documents the incident, the tracker gets the bike back.
