Usually no — most U.S. insurers will sell you comprehensive motorcycle coverage without requiring an alarm, immobilizer, or tracker. But the full picture is more interesting than that:
Requirements exist at the margins. Some insurers, particularly for high-value bikes, high-theft models, or high-theft urban ZIP codes, may require approved security devices or garaging as a condition of coverage — or simply decline to quote without them. Specialty and classic bike policies sometimes have their own security conditions.
Discounts are common. Many insurers knock a percentage off the comprehensive portion of your premium for factory or approved alarms, immobilizers, and GPS tracking devices. The discount varies by company, so ask yours specifically what qualifies and what proof they want.
Conditions matter after a claim, too. If your policy includes a security requirement and the bike was stolen while unsecured, that can complicate the claim. Read the fine print.
Practical play: call your insurer and ask two questions — "do you offer anti-theft discounts, and which devices qualify?" A tracker or alarm can pay back part of its cost in premium savings while doing the actual job insurance can't: helping you get the bike back instead of just a check.
