Speed is everything. Recovery odds drop sharply after the first 24–48 hours, because that's when stolen vehicles get parted out, re-tagged, or moved out of the area. Here's the fast-recovery playbook:
File the police report immediately — recovery starts with the vehicle being flagged in the national database, and officers can't act on a theft that isn't reported.
Pull your tracker location. If the vehicle has any GPS tracker, get the live position and give it to police right away. This is the single biggest difference-maker — it turns a cold case into an address.
Collect camera footage from your own cameras and neighbors within the first few hours, while it still exists.
Scan marketplaces daily. Thieves list stolen vehicles and parts shockingly fast. Search your make and model within 50–100 miles.
Check nearby streets and lots. Many stolen vehicles are dumped within a few miles once the fun or the fuel runs out.
One rule that never changes: if you locate it, call the police and hand them the location. Don't confront anyone yourself. And once this is behind you, put a hidden tracker on the replacement — it's the layer that makes "find it fast" actually possible.
