Thieves shop driveways the way you shop listings — quickly, comparing, taking the easiest deal on the street. Your goal isn't a fortress; it's being visibly more work than the next driveway over.
Kill the advertisement. A bike visible from the road is the number-one attractor. Park it behind the car, behind a gate, or under a plain unbranded cover — a distinctive branded cover just tells them what's underneath.
Light the approach. Motion-activated floodlights over the driveway and any side path. Thieves budget seconds of darkness; take them away.
Make noise and friction. Gravel borders announce footsteps. A parked car blocking the bike means they can't roll it straight out. A chained ground anchor or heavy chain through the frame turns a 90-second job into a loud 10-minute one.
Show eyes. A visible camera aimed at the driveway, angled to catch the street and any plate, moves opportunists along.
Break your pattern. Don't leave the bike out "just for tonight" on the same weeknights — that's exactly when watchers strike.
Then accept that a determined crew can still win against any driveway, and plant the layer they can't see: a hidden GPS tracker with motion alerts on the frame. The instant the bike moves without you, your phone knows, and police get a live location while the van is still in the neighborhood.
