Completely normal. Ask around any riders' forum and you'll find guys who admit to peeking out the window two or three times a night, especially after buying a new bike or hearing about a theft nearby. A motorcycle isn't just money on wheels — it's something you bond with, and your brain treats it like something worth guarding.
The checking itself isn't the problem. The problem is that it doesn't actually protect anything — it just interrupts your sleep. A thief with a van needs under a minute, so the odds of your 2am window check landing in that exact minute are close to zero.
What works better is letting technology do the checking for you:
- Park where a camera or light covers the bike, and lock it to something solid.
- Use a cover — thieves scout for specific models, and a covered bike is a question mark.
- Put a motion-alert GPS tracker on the frame. If the bike so much as shifts, your phone tells you immediately — and if it ever rolls away, you have a live location for police instead of an empty spot.
Once the bike can effectively "call you" when something happens, the 2am check loses its job. Most riders find the habit fades within a couple of weeks.
