The honest answer: no, not really. A motorcycle parked on the street overnight is in the single highest-risk situation a bike can be in. Most thefts happen at night, most happen at or near the owner's home, and a street-parked bike checks every box a thief looks for: visible, accessible, unattended for hours, and easy to load into a van.
That doesn't mean you're doomed if street parking is your only option — plenty of city riders keep their bikes for years. It means you have to make your bike the worst target on the block:
- Chain it to something immovable — a lamppost, railing, or ground anchor. The van method needs a free bike; a properly anchored one defeats it.
- Use a plain, logo-free cover. Thieves steal specific models. A covered bike is a question mark, and question marks aren't worth the risk.
- Pick your spot: well-lit, near cameras or a busy entrance, visible from your window if possible.
- Rotate spots so your bike isn't part of a predictable routine.
- Add a disc lock with an alarm for noise, and a hidden tracker so that if all of the above fails, you and the police know exactly where the bike went.
Layer three or four of these and you've moved your bike from "easy pick" to "not worth it" — which is the entire game.
