Generally yes — when they're available, motorcycle-specific parking areas and garages are usually a better bet than a random corner of a car garage. But grade each one on what it actually offers, not the sign.
What makes them genuinely safer:
- Anchor points or rails designed for chaining a frame — the single biggest upgrade over street parking.
- Other riders around. Bikers notice things: a stranger with tools, a bike being wheeled instead of ridden. That informal watch is real security.
- Cameras aimed at bikes, not just at car lanes, and often attendants or controlled entry.
- No cars maneuvering around your bike — fewer tip-overs is a bonus.
What to check before trusting one:
- Is entry actually controlled, or can anyone walk in from the street?
- Are the cameras real, recording, and covering the bike bays?
- Is the area lit and visible, or a forgotten basement corner?
One honest caution: a badly run "motorcycle area" concentrates targets in one quiet place — a buffet if nobody's watching. So even in a dedicated garage, chain to the anchor, fit your disc lock, and keep a hidden tracker on the bike. Good infrastructure lowers the risk; your own layers cover the rest.
