Where you park matters as much as what lock you use. Thieves pick targets they can work on unseen and leave quickly — so your job is to deny them privacy, time, and an easy exit.
Look for spots that give you:
- Light: under a streetlight or building floodlight, never in a dark corner.
- Foot traffic: near building entrances, busy sidewalks, cafe windows — places where someone crouching over a bike with tools gets noticed.
- Cameras: in clear view of a storefront or building camera, not just near one.
- Anchor points: a post, rail, or dedicated motorcycle anchor you can chain the frame to. A bike locked to itself can still be lifted into a van.
- Designated motorcycle bays where they exist — other riders around means more eyes that recognize when something's wrong.
Avoid: alleys, the far dark end of parking lots, and being the only bike in an empty structure overnight. And don't park in the exact same visible spot every day — predictability is how thieves plan.
Even the perfect spot only lowers the odds, so lock it there anyway and keep a hidden tracker on the bike. Good parking prevents most attempts; the tracker covers the one it doesn't.
