Because Bluetooth trackers don’t actually track — they leave breadcrumbs. Understanding why yours went dark points straight at the fix:
Range ran out. Bluetooth reaches maybe 30–100 feet. Once the bike left that bubble, your phone lost it entirely.
The crowd network went quiet. Tags like AirTag and Tile rely on other people’s phones passing close by. Thieves know it, so stolen vehicles go into vans (metal blocks signal), closed garages, and industrial areas where nobody with the right app walks past.
The last location was stale. That dot was where a phone last spotted the tag — the bike may have left hours earlier.
The thief got warned. Anti-stalking alerts can notify a thief’s phone that an unknown tag is traveling with them. Many tags are found and tossed within hours.
Dead or crushed tag. Small batteries, fragile housings, vibration.
None of this means you made a dumb choice — the tool was designed for keychains and luggage, not theft recovery. If the bike is still missing, file the police report with your last-seen location now. Going forward, the fix is a cellular GPS unit hidden on the frame: live location and movement alerts that don’t depend on a stranger walking by.
